General Health Awareness

The East Sussex School Health Service offers a range of health awareness training sessions to support education staff in developing the knowledge and confidence needed to meet the health needs of children and young people in their setting.

These nurse-led webinars are designed for teachers, school leaders, support staff and other education professionals, providing practical, up-to-date guidance that helps create safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments.

Our Introductory (Tier 1) Asthma and Allergy Training is a 90-minute Microsoft Teams session designed to help school staff confidently support children with asthma and allergies.

The training covers:

  • Asthma awareness
  • Signs and symptoms of an asthma attack and emergency treatment
  • Allergy awareness
  • Anaphylaxis and emergency treatment
  • Practical considerations for supporting pupils in education settings
  • Questions and answers with members of the School Health Service team

This training is aligned to the Tier 1 Asthma training and Benedict’s Law, the new School Allergy Safety Bill.

      Attendance contributes towards your schools’ journey to achieving:

  • Asthma and Allergy Friendly Schools award in East Sussex
  • Asthma Friendly or Asthma Aware schools award in West Sussex and Brighton & Hove.

Each webinar is designed to give education professionals a better awareness of these conditions and the confidence to support pupils with medical needs safely and effectively.
