The rationale for taking a ‘Healthy Schools’ approach is clear. Promoting health and wellbeing in schools and colleges can improve both educational and health and wellbeing outcomes (PHE 2014).
The East Sussex Healthy Schools programme builds on previous evidence-based local approaches. It is supported by East Sussex Public Health and the East Sussex School Health Service.
The programme is free to schools in East Sussex and brings together:
- Gaining Healthy Schools Accreditation through our new and updated Audit tool. The audit will be launched in the 2026/27 Academic Year and available through the East Sussex Evaluate My School platform. The statements within the audit are evidence based and align with Ofsted, the updated RSHE guidance and Healthy Child Programme.
- Training and support for schools in General Health Awareness including the Asthma and Allergy Friendly Schools Programme.
- Our updated structured RSHE support offer.
More information about the new, updated audit tool will be available soon.
