East Sussex excellence award

East Sussex Healthy Schools logoThe rationale for taking a ‘Healthy Schools’ approach is clear. Promoting health and wellbeing in schools and colleges can improve both educational and health and wellbeing outcomes (PHE 2014).

The East Sussex Healthy Schools programme builds on previous evidence-based local approaches. It is supported by East Sussex Public Health and the East Sussex School Health Service.

The programme is free to schools in East Sussex and brings together:

  • Healthy Schools Award via the School Health Check. The content is strongly aligned with the latest Ofsted descriptors, providing a simple way to collate a range of evidence around Social Emotional and Mental Health, PSHE, Physical Activity and Healthy Eating.
  • new pupil survey – My Health My School - for years 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and key stage 5 as well as separate surveys for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • a new updated PSHE offer from the School Health Service.

In this section you will find lots of useful resources, please contact our Health Improvement Team at kentchft.esschoolhealthservice@nhs.net as we are here to support you to help achieve Healthy School Status and help you make the changes you need to improve pupil and staff health, wellbeing and attainment.
