Speech, voice, selective mutism and stammering

This is a uni-disciplinary area of support involving Speech and Language Therapy with a skill mix of therapists and integrated therapy assistants.

Please select from one of the following pages to access our universal support in the form of training videos, further information and helpful links and resources.

Specialist support

Children and young people can access specialist support from preschool age to 18 years old. Please visit the Accessing our service page for further information or phone our Therapy One Point service on 0300 123 2650.

The specialist provision within this area of support is delivered across:

  • Workshops for parents and professionals
  • Individual sessions.

Children and young people are offered specialist support in the Speech, Voice, Selective Mutism and Stammering Area of support if any of the following are their primary area of need:

  • delayed or disordered speech sound development
  • a voice disorder
  • stammering
  • selective mutism.

We aim to work in partnership with parents, with parental involvement adapted to suit age and needs. Home/school programmes and/or online training for parents and education staff will be available.

Following assessment, a child or young person obtaining specialist support will receive targeted advice and intervention by a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) or trained Integrated Therapies Assistants (ITAs), who work in consultation with the SLTs.
