Training

You can keep up to date with Healthy Schools events and training in East Sussex from The School Health Service at Events | East Sussex (eastsussexchildren.nhs.uk).

Schools in East Sussex can also book in for a Speech and Language consultation - face to face time with a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to talk about specific children, talk about specific areas or ask a SLTA to model activity for you. We have created a large number of training films on our website, from bite sized films (two to 15 minutes) to longer workshops (20 to 90 minutes). These include:

Asthma and Allergy Training

Our Introductory (Tier 1) Asthma and Allergy Training is a 90-minute Microsoft Teams session designed to help school staff confidently support children with asthma and allergies.

The training covers:

• Asthma awareness and the impact of asthma in schools
• Recognising the signs and symptoms of an asthma attack
• Correct inhaler technique
• Allergy awareness and anaphylaxis
• Practical considerations for supporting pupils in education settings
• Questions and answers with members of the School Health Service team

Attendance contributes towards your school's journey to achieving Asthma and Allergy Friendly School status and is recognised as equivalent to completing the online tier one training.

This training is also aligned to Benedict’s Law, the new School Allergy Safety Bill, coming into force in England from September 2026, increasing the focus on allergy awareness and making comprehensive allergy training a requirement for all school staff.

Please note: If your school is planning to watch the webinar as a group, for example by displaying it on a screen in a hall, meeting room or classroom, only one person from the school needs to register. There is no requirement for every member of staff attending the session to sign up individually. Individual registration is only required where staff members will be joining separately on their own devices.
