“I particularly liked the straight-forward structure of the evaluation and having a series of external benchmarks was a powerful tool to help focus the review and ensure that we could develop a clear action plan for the whole school moving forwards.”

East Sussex Secondary School

The East Sussex Healthy Schools Award is achieved through schools completing and evidencing their practice using an online self-review and improvement tool. The tool supports schools to evaluate their current provision, identify areas for development, and demonstrate how they are promoting the health, wellbeing and achievement of pupils.

For the 2025/26 academic year, the online Healthy Schools Award tool is being updated to ensure it reflects the latest national guidance, evidence and best practice for schools. These updates will help schools continue to develop a whole-school approach to health and wellbeing while ensuring the award remains relevant, robust and aligned with current expectations.
