The East Sussex Healthy Schools programme

Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)

Schools and colleges play an important role in promoting good social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing. We know that there are excellent examples across East Sussex of schools supporting and promoting good mental health, in particular where it is done as part of a whole school approach.

East Sussex ISEND services on mental health and emotional wellbeing promote a whole school approach. A Whole School Approach encompasses and mobilises the whole school to promote student and staff wellbeing and address mental health issues. This type of multi-component approach has been shown to be effective in promoting social and emotional wellbeing than those which focus on only one or two parts of school life.
